The Association of Taxation Technicians

The Association of Taxation Technicians http://www.att.org.uk

The Association of Taxation Technicians was founded in 1989 under the sponsorship of the Institute of Taxation (now the Chartered Institute of Taxation).

The Association currently has a membership of over 9000, affiliates and registered students and has become the leading professional body for those providing tax compliance services and related activities in the UK.

Its members are qualified by examination and practical experience to assist individuals and businesses in complying with their tax obligations.

Its creation recognised the increasing demand for tax services and the development of tax practice as a professional activity in its own right.
Tax practice includes tax compliance work, namely the preparation of the tax returns that corporate and individual taxpayers must file.

Membership

The primary objective of the Association is to provide an appropriate qualification for individuals who undertake such work.

TAXATION TECHNICIAN - those who meet the membership requirements have their qualification recognised by use of the title of "Taxation Technician" and the designatory letters ATT.
Candidates for membership must satisfy the Association's examination requirements, which cover business and personal taxation together with accountancy and law, and have had a period of practical experience.

AFFILIATE - for those who have passed the examinations but do not have the necessary two years practical experience.
