Law firms have recently imposed cost-cutting measures, including shorter working weeks, sabbaticals, and salary freezes
Britain's leading regional law firms, suffering even more severely from the downturn in the legal services market than their London rivals, are imposing drastic cost-cutting measures in an attempt to stave off further job losses.
Yesterday Dundas & Wilson (D&W), one of Scotland's oldest firms, asked its 650 staff to consider a 10 per cent pay cut in return for an additional 18 days of unpaid leave. It follows similar moves by Pinsent Masons, the second-biggest law firm outside London, and Halliwells, the largest Manchester-based firm.
