In little over a decade email has established itself as the business communications tool of choice - and as a result has become one of the most critical applications within any organization. Ask most CIOs what they would restore first in the event of any outage and the majority will say 'email server'. Not surprising really when you realise there are well over 100 billion email messages generated every day, with the average worker sending or receiving 140 emails per day. Plus you consider the fact that the email medium itself has changed so rapidly, from the occasional 'in lieu of telephone conversation' electronic note to something that has become habitual and ubiquitous and core to a business operation. We use it for conversations, negotiations, document collaboration, contract exchange, for the formal and informal - it’s woven into the corporate fabric and to be without it is unthinkable.
