Office Assistant This provides an entry-level role where individuals join a firm to work in a basic administrative capacity with a view to learning and developing professional work experience. Assistant Legal Cashier An Assistant Legal Cashier often comes into the role having gained some basic office experience or more commonly some exposure to accounts payable/purchase ledger in a junior capacity. The Assistant Legal Cashier will provide support to a team of Cashiers with a view to developing their skills and moving into a more senior position. Legal Cashier A Legal Cashier is responsible for processing the day to day financial transaction through Client & Office accounts. The role of the Legal Cashier can change dramatically depending on the size of the firm. Within larger firms Legal Cashiers may specialise in a particular area such as Client Account or alternatively Office Account. In smaller practices the Legal Cashiers remit will extend outside that of just Client & Office account and may also incorporate purchase ledger/accounts payable and occasionally billing. Client Account Cashier A Client Cashier will more often than not work within a larger Law firm where the cashiering function is split into specific areas because of volume of work. A Client Cashier possesses all the skills of a Legal Cashier but will be focused on only Client Account transactions. Particularly within larger firms there are complex transactions and interest calculations where a specialist Client Account Cashier is an advantage. Office Account Cashier Similar to a Client Cashier, and Office Cashier will normally work within a larger firm where the cashiering function is split into specific areas because of volume of work. An Office Cashier possesses all the skills of a Legal Cashier but will be focused on only Office Account transactions. Office account cashiers tend to work with the other areas within accounts including professional disbursements, purchase ledger and billing. Senior Legal Cashier/Accounts Supervisor A Senior Legal Cashier/Accounts Supervisor possesses well rounded cashiering skills covering client & office account, purchase ledger, professional disbursements and occasionally billing. Usually responsible for supervision of the cashiering team a Senior Legal Cashier/Accounts Supervisor would also gain exposure to the more complex cashiering tasks on a day to day basis whilst providing support to the cashiers for transactional queries.
