MEDIUM SIZED CITY LAW FIRMS
Medium sized City Law firms tend to have a solid UK presence and perhaps a range of offices overseas, although sometimes they are purely National firms. Medium sized City Law firms tend to be renowned for a particular area of law i.e. Litigation, Media, IT, Property etc.
Similar to International Law firms, these Medium sized City Law firms have had to invest heavily in providing the highest level of service to their Clients and ensuring on-going staff development & training. The notable differences between Medium sized City Law firms and International Law firms is the working culture. Whilst both strive for excellence and providing a first class service the culture within a Medium sized City Law firm is less pressured.
The finance department is a reflection of the size of firm and accordingly the exposure to variety of work can be greater than in that of a larger International Law firm. Because of the size of the finance department career progression is not always available for ambitious individuals although there are firms that actively promote internal movement laterally as well as vertically and this is often an incentive to stay with a firm.
One of the great advantages of a Medium sized City Law firm is the exposure to the partnership in terms of Lawyers and fee earners. Depending on your role you may be in regular contact with all levels within the firm and to this end it is easier to make a more recognisable impact on the business and obtain recognition for achievement.
These types of firms are suited to those who want to work for a successful firm but do not want to be working in such a large organisation. Working in a Medium sized City Law firm does not always involve working in such a high pressured environment and can be extremely rewarding and dynamic in their own way.
