NATIONAL/REGIONAL LAW FIRMS
These firms tend to fall into one of two categories. The firms normally:
A. operate throughout the UK with a strong presence in a number of cities including London, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Bristol and Leeds amongst others; or
B. operate on a regional basis with a strong presence in a particular area in the UK.
During the last ten years the number of National/Regional Law firms has increased as firms have merged with a view to strengthening their position in the UK market.
Their clients are mainly UK companies or local/public authorities although increasingly they are looking to attract International Clients and compete with the Medium Sized City and International Law firms. Some Regional firms maintain a strong focus on Private Client work in areas including Trust, Estate & Tax planning.
National/Regional Law firms can differ greatly in size depending on the number of offices and their area of specialisation. In many ways firms that fall into this category are very similar to those under the Medium Size City Law Firm category.
The distinct difference in culture is normally dictated by the location of the office/s, where it is generally accepted that those that work in regional or provincial locations are exposed to a slightly less pressured environment where quality of life supersedes work.
