From March 2012, all legal firms will have had to elect a Compliance Officer who will be responsible for ensuring a rigorous and compliant data security process that meets all regulatory obligations. Failure to comply with the Data Protection Act (1998) is not an option. Any breach, however minor, is taken very seriously by The Information Commissioner’s Office who has the authority to levy monetary penalty notices of up to £500,000.
