Networking and social events

The Law Society is running a series of free Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) regional networking groups, in association with 192business and Accuity.

The groups are for MLROs in law practices, their deputies and senior compliance staff. They are designed to facilitate discussions between local law practices about the challenges of anti-money laundering AML compliance and to enable the sharing of good practice.

The events are free and qualify for 2 hours CPD. Please note that numbers are limited to two people per firm.

The Law Society of Scotland and the Faculty of Advocates are planning their fifth annual World Intellectual Property Day event in Edinburgh on Friday 27 April 2012, from 12 noon to 2pm.

World IP Day is on 26 April each year, and The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva set up this global event in 2000. World IP Day aims to make us aware of the impact of IP on daily life, teach us about how IP protection promotes creativity and innovation, celebrate the contribution of creativity/innovation to society and encourage respect for IP rights.

Beyond the Traditional... Law Firm IT

Today’s law firm looks nothing like it did a generation ago –– it’s getting bigger through mergers, globalisation and multiple office deals; it’s layered with more risks from “always connected” technologies and more regulatory requirements. The successful law firm needs to look at IT in new ways, challenge the norms and focus on different approaches to traditional IT projects and project management.

Linetime in association with LBS Legal invites you to attend our CPD accredited breakfast seminar.

During 2012 all legal practices will have to have a designated officer for Legal practice (COLP) as well as a Compliance officer for Finance and Administration (COFA).

As the burden of monitoring and enforcing compliance increases firms need to devise systems and processes to support their Compliance Officer to effectively and efficiently monitor their practices.
