Legora acquires Walter AI to expand its agentic platform for legal teams

Legora, the collaborative AI platform for lawyers, today announced its acquisition of Walter AI, an agent-native legal AI company trusted by top Canadian law firms, including Fasken Martineau and McCarthy Tétrault.

The acquisition builds on Legora’s investment in agentic capabilities and deepens its commitment to delivering a fully integrated AI experience for legal teams.

“When we saw what the Walter team had built, we immediately recognized a shared philosophy around agent-native design,” said Max Junestrand, CEO and co-founder of Legora. “The Walter team have approached legal AI the same way we have – embedding closely with lawyers and designing agents to handle real, end-to-end workflows. Bringing our teams together allows us to scale that vision faster.”

The acquisition expands Legora’s vision for a fully agentic experience for lawyers. One where a single AI agent executes complex, multi-step legal workflows end-to-end — from first-mile Outlook intake, through DMS research, multi-document editing, and blacklining, to last-mile client replies.

Paired with Walter’s established relationships at major Canadian law firms with offices across the country, the acquisition positions Legora to expand its presence in the Canadian market while accelerating its broader vision for agentic legal AI globally.

Walter’s product development process was shaped through a joint innovation program with Fasken and McCarthy Tétrault. By embedding forward-deployed engineers directly with partners and associates, Walter was able to rapidly iterate on a new model for legal work—one where AI agents execute work alongside lawyers, rather than simply assist them. The outcome is an agentic platform capable of executing complex multi-step legal workflows, delivering industry-leading document editing and truly agentic integrations with core firm systems such as iManage and Outlook.

Leading the Walter team are Ryan Wilson, CEO, a multi-exited founder who has built and sold five companies across payments, healthcare, cybersecurity, and vertical SaaS, and Greg Bell, Principal Engineer, who brings deep infrastructure expertise as a former General Manager of Amazon S3.

“When we met the Legora team, it was clear we had a shared vision for the future of agentic legal technology. By joining Legora we can accelerate the realization of that shared vision of end-to-end matter management with fleets of agents.” said Wilson. “We’ve built both companies in close partnership with the legal teams actually doing the work. Working with our customers, not just for them – iterating on feedback until the product matches how legal work actually gets done. And we’ve both arrived at the same conclusion: the future of legal AI is agentic.”
