Briefing: Why B Corp certification is more than a badge – Buckles Law
Mel Smith, chief operating officer at Buckles Law, highlights why the firm’s decision to become B Corp certified is a strategic step towards higher standards and greater client trust
The legal sector has no shortage of ways to measure the quality of law firms and their people. Directory rankings, reviews, award short listings and peer recognition all have their place, but when Buckles Law set out to achieve B Corp certification, we were looking for something different.
We wanted an independent, evidence-based assessment of how our entire business operates and how it can improve, rather than just the quality of our legal work.
B Corp certification is awarded by B Lab, a global non-profit that assesses businesses against rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, governance, employee welfare and community impact. The B Impact Assessment runs to 200 questions and can take up to 18 months to complete. We believe that, currently, fewer than 1% of UK firms have achieved it.
