CTS case study: CFG Law

CFG Law chose to migrate to the cloud in order to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the legal sector, whilst also achieving increased data security, flexibility and efficiency.

The Requirement

CFG Law were introduced to CTS when the firm were going through the process of assessing its IT infrastructure to ensure that it met the requirements of an exceedingly demanding and ever-evolving serious injury market, as well as providing a platform for digital transformation. Planning ahead for the future, CFG Law realised the need to transition to a ‘cloud-first’ strategy in order to achieve their objectives of growth, innovation and agile working. By making this change and moving to the cloud, the firm could gain the flexibility, efficiency and heightened security it needed to drive its “Client First Service” strategy forward.

CFG Law is an innovative serious and catastrophic injury business driven by a common purpose ‘to help those affected by injury – together.’ It was vital for the firm to have a robust, secure and efficient environment in place so that they could offer these services to their clients and maintain a strong position in a highly competitive market.

Upon completion of the firm’s due diligence checks and an extensive selection process, CFG Law chose CTS to design, deliver and manage a brand new, cloud-based environment for their applications, as well as a resilient disaster recovery solution and ongoing technical support to ensure high availability of mission critical IT systems, strong cybersecurity defences and total compliance with their specific legal sector requirements.

The Solution

Following an exhaustive review of their existing infrastructure, CTS built and delivered a fully Managed Cloud solution, which included Managed Support, System Backups and a comprehensive Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Service.

Specifically tailored to deliver the required performance, redundancy, availability and scalability required by CFG Law and its clients, the solution delivered an infrastructure that enabled the firm to concentrate on meeting the key business growth targets, as well as allowing colleagues to benefit from the latest technology, to support their already, paperless platforms.

With a fully Managed Cloud solution, CFG Law have benefitted from a much more robust and agile system, which not only keeps any downtime and disruption to an absolute minimum, but also ensures a swift and efficient service that means their colleagues could access the system anytime, anywhere, securing their ability to continue providing excellent client service.

“The needs of our clients have always been our primary focus. As such, having dependable and resilient IT systems is vital to ensure that we can continue to deliver our exceptional standards of service to them. This solution provides us with both the agility and flexibility we require to embrace new approaches to the ever-changing demands of the sector. As an additional benefit, we were ready to work from home from day one of the Covid-19 restrictions, which has meant business as usual for all of our colleagues and clients during this period” said Wayne Lord, Head of IT & Business Improvement at CFG Law.

The introduction of the Managed Backup & Disaster Recovery solution allows the firm to quickly recover client data, files, applications and servers and seamlessly failover to a new environment in the event of an infrastructure failure, with minimal disruption to the firm. CFG Law’s data is backed up to provide Disaster Recovery within the primary data centre environment and this is replicated to a second data centre, ensuring that the firm’s critical systems and data are fully backed up and secure, keeping them compliant with the SRA and other more general compliance regulations, such as GDPR.

The high level of cybersecurity that private cloud offers, both at the server and the endpoint, combined with the resiliency of CTS’ Disaster Recovery solution, ensures that CFG Law’s data is adequately protected, providing assurance to clients and partners alike.

The Results

The flexibility and scalability that CTS’ Managed Cloud service provides has enabled CFG Law to move forward with their business growth objectives as they opened a second office, based in Manchester, in 2019, welcoming a host of new solicitors and the launch of a new Court of Protection team. With the support of CTS, the firm has moved forward with their plans for expansion and been able to support an increasing number of clients, while continuing to grow their profile and reputation nationwide.

Being a legal sector specialist, CTS have further assisted CFG Law with their technology roadmap by supporting them with the implementation of Microsoft 365 and Teams, granting further agility and room for expansion. By choosing a secure, flexible and customisable infrastructure provided by CTS, CFG Law have since adopted a business intelligence solution alongside their chosen legal practice management system, Linetime’s Liberate.

The services provided by CTS are supported by a 24/7 team who deliver regular maintenance, monitoring, remediation, helpdesk and emergency support. By partnering with a legal sector specialist, CFG Law have access to a technical team with in-depth experience of sector-specific applications, knowledge of the specific compliance requirements of law firms and consultants who can provide guidance on the firm’s IT strategy.

“We chose to work with CTS due to their strong legal sector expertise, meaning they can respond quickly and knowledgeably to queries and provide expert guidance. It’s reassuring to know that we have their team to provide us with the ongoing strategic and technical support we need,” concluded Wayne.
