Disloyal lawyers: has the partnership track officially lost its lustre? Find out with LexisNexis

Landing a job at a top firm and working your way up to partner used to be the lifetime career goal for most lawyers.

But today’s generation of legal associates are determined to have their cake and eat it too. A costly compensation package, a work-life balance, and none of the responsibility the comes with partnership.

LexisNexis investigates the shifting ambitions of legal associates, the urgent needs of legal leaders, and future of the partnership model across the board.

Our survey of 500+ lawyers across the UK found:

  • Four-fifths of law firm leaders from medium-to-large sized firms believe loyalty is declining
  • Two-thirds of large law firm leaders believe associates are less interested in making Partner
  • Three-quarters of associates plan to stay in private practice in the near future
  • A quarter of associates have partnership aspirations in their five-year plan
  • Work-life balance is considered more important than salary when job searching.
