Introducing Ask LexisNexis: Answer questions in Harvey using trusted LexisNexis primary law content.
In June, we announced our strategic alliance with LexisNexis to bring authoritative answers to complex legal research questions directly into Harvey. Today, we’re excited to introduce Ask LexisNexis.
Eliminating Friction
When performing legal research, lawyers frequently find themselves moving between the different environments they prefer for each task: conducting research in one place, sharing those findings through another, revising their research on a separate service, and pulling everything together on yet another platform where they build arguments or draft documents. This back and forth can create friction in the workflow.
We formed a strategic alliance with LexisNexis to eliminate this friction for Harvey customers. With Ask LexisNexis, you can now submit legal questions in natural language and get AI-driven, citation-backed answers from LexisNexis, grounded in U.S. primary law content. Each response draws from their collection of U.S. federal and state case law, statutes, administrative codes, and agency decisions, complete with Shepar Citations Service that instantly shows whether your cited authorities are still good law.
Danny Tobey, Partner, Chair of AI & Data Analytics: “DLA Piper is committed to being on the leading edge of building and adopting the very best transformative legal AI tools to serve our clients. We are pleased to be one of the very first to test the new combination of LexisNexis and Harvey, bringing together two AI systems we have long used into a promising new integration. We are proud to again be on the cutting edge of AI transformation, working with new and old friends in growing our arsenal of AI guided legal services.”
Instead of manually filtering through hundreds of cases to find relevant precedents, Ask LexisNexis identifies the most pertinent authorities for your specific query. This contextual approach means you’re not just getting lists of cases—you’re getting deeply relevant insights that directly address your legal question, reducing the chance of missing key authorities that could impact your analysis.
Every answer includes pinpoint citations that link to full-text references, legal metadata, and source context—giving you the detail you need for deeper research and more informed drafting. Need to explore an angle further? Ask follow-up questions and refine your analysis, all while staying in Harvey.
Applied in Practice
Consider the impact on day-to-day work. When researching case law, you can analyze key holdings and material facts without worrying about missing an essential case. You can quickly read up on regulatory provisions alongside applicable agency decisions. And you can analyze contract clauses as they relate to relevant statutory requirements—all validated through Shepard’s® Citations, without losing your train of thought.
The integration also enhances team collaboration. Legal teams can share their threads created with Ask LexisNexis, including the questions asked and citation-backed answers received, along with any analyses or drafts that build on that research. This allows teams to align quickly and build stronger case strategies together, all within the Harvey platform.
This reflects something important about how legal technology should evolve. The best tools don’t just automate tasks; they disappear into your workflow so completely that using them feels effortless. When you can access validated, citation-backed research without switching contexts, you naturally spend more time on the high-stakes work that makes the biggest difference for your clients.
What’s Next
Our product philosophy is simple: we build tools by understanding how lawyers actually work. We’re committed to building for our customers by building with them, ensuring that every feature serves real workflows and genuine needs.
Ask LexisNexis was shaped with feedback from leading firm DLA Piper, who helped test the integration and provide crucial feedback. Their insights helped us refine the user experience and ensure the integration meets the demanding standards of complex legal work.
The feature is live in open beta for all Harvey users. Soon, we’ll also be introducing specialized workflows powered by LexisNexis for key legal processes.
